The Millionaire Farmer is a television series of the Bavarian Radio . In the first season 1979 seven episodes were created, in the second season 1986/1987 six more episodes of 45 minutes each. The latter was broadcast for the first time in 1988 in the ARD's evening program. The director was Georg Tressler , the screenplay was written by Franz Geiger .

The boom at the end of the 1970s required building land for new satellite cities. In the east of Munich the farmer Josef Hartinger made a small fortune selling his fields. He gives up agriculture and lives on the redeemed millions.

Josef Hartinger buys livelihoods for his children: Martin becomes a drinks dealer and daughter Monika gets a small hairdressing salon. But the oldest, Andreas, is a farmer with body and soul, a farmer with no arable land. Andreas decides to emigrate to Canada and without his knowledge his father buys him a ranch .

Hartinger later realizes that speculators have fobbed him off with a sandwich. Like so many, he had sold his home.

In the second season of the series, Hartinger is preparing to make a career as a politician and is applying for the office of mayor.

The film was shot on a farm in the municipality of Anzing .

The second season was filmed from 1986 and broadcast two years later on the ARD's evening program. The occupation remained the same, but Anzing is no longer used as a nearby location.
