Grand Prix of Folk Music 2000
The 15th Grand Prix of Folk Music took place on September 2, 2000 in Zurich. Participating countries were again Germany, Austria and Switzerland and, for the first time, South Tyrol. (In South Tyrol there has been a similar competition since 1993 called the South Tyrolean Grand Prix of Folk Music . However, this competition continues as a separate competition regardless of South Tyrol's participation in the Grand Prix of Folk Music. In order to avoid confusion, this competition carries since 2001 the name Alpen Grand Prix .)
In every country, as in the three previous participating countries since 1989, a public preliminary decision was carried out on television. Four titles were determined for the final, so that for the first time 16 titles were entered in the competition. The Swiss preliminary decision took place on April 22nd in Zurich (moderation: Leonard and Monique ), the South Tyrolean on June 9th in Merano (moderation: Zeno Braitenberg ), the Austrian on June 17th. (Moderation: Wolfram Pirchner ) and the German on June 22nd in Chemnitz (Moderation: Carolin Reiber ). The events, for which a CD was released with all participants, were broadcast live.
The final was broadcast by SRG as part of a Eurovision broadcast from Zurich and taken over by ZDF, ORF and RAI Bozen. The moderators were the two pop singers Leonard and Monique , who already led through the Swiss preliminary decision. The starting order of the titles and countries had been drawn beforehand. After the titles were presented, viewers from the participating countries were able to choose their favorite for the first time via TED.
At the end of the ranking, Oswald Sattler and Jantje Smit were the winners of the Grand Prix of Folk Music 2000. Her title I will show you the mountains was composed by Marc Bell and Dagmar Obernosterer wrote the lyrics. With this, the two won the Grand Prix of Folk Music in South Tyrol when South Tyrol took part in the international competition for the first time.
As the venue for the next Grand Prix of Folk Music 2001, regardless of the country of the winner, Vienna was chosen.
