from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

German Hofmann (born April 10, 1942 in Frickenhausen am Main , Würzburg district ; † July 3, 2007 in Ochsenfurt ) was a German musician of popular music . He was the founder and director of the original Ochsenfurt brass band from the Bavarian Franconia .

Life

German played in his father's brass band in Frickenhausen at the age of six and learned to read music. After finishing school, he first learned the mason trade and worked as a skilled worker for fireplace constructions. Finally he attended the Würzburg Conservatory, where he studied music with Richard Stegmann . In 1959, German founded his first band. At the same time he played the trumpet in several wind orchestras before putting together his own brass band for the Ochsenfurt Folk Costume Association in 1968.

German Hofmann recorded several records with his wind orchestra and became known nationwide through his television engagements. He gave the SAT1 Edelweiss Galas and the Frankenfastnacht from Veithöchsheim the musical framework. German's daughter also sang with the orchestra under the stage name Karina .

In 1989 the people of Ochsenfurt took part in the Grand Prix of Folk Music with their title Kreuther March . The brass orchestra also took part in the 1991 Grand Prix of Folk Music with Peters Polka .

German Hofmann was a permanent guest at the Cannstatter Volksfest in Stuttgart with his original Ochsenfurt brass band , went on a hit tour every year and had gala appearances at balls and dance events in the winter season. Since the Ochsenfurt brass band was cast like a big band, the biannual change of genre was possible without any problems.

On May 29, 1998, the city of Ochsenfurt awarded him the city's culture prize for the 30th stage anniversary before a gala evening. "German Hofmann's musician and conductor career is unprecedented in the German show business," wrote the daily Mainpost on the anniversary.

In 2004 he retired from the professional music business, partly due to illness. He died of cancer on July 3, 2007.

Hofmann had been married to Irene since 1963. The couple have a son and a daughter.
