Richard Stegmann (born March 9, 1889 in Schönau an der Hörsel (today part of Wutha-Farnroda , Thuringia); † April 3, 1982 in Würzburg ) was a German cornet and trumpet virtuoso .

Stegmann was the first trumpeter of the Berlin Philharmonic from 1913 to 1925 , and then a teacher at the Bavarian State Conservatory for Music in Würzburg . During this time, Professor Richard Stegmann had very good contacts with Eduard Kruspe , Erfurt. In addition to the concert trumpet series “Modell Studienrat Stegmann”, he also helped develop a cornet in B and C.

Between 1935 and 1939, Stegmann also had contact with Josef Monke in Cologne. Here one can assume that Stegmann incorporated the shape of the bow and the vocal bow, as is usual from Kruspe, into Monke. Due to the more direct address, the shape was more angular than round, which was not common with Josef Monke before this time (see also LA Schmidt ). Even after that, under Josef Helmich, the Monke trumpets were somewhat more rounded. The trumpet shown at Stegmann's elementary school corresponds exactly to the Josef Monke trumpet from this period (made by Josef Monke in Cologne).

Adam Bauer (Cologne University of Music) was a student and successor to Adam Zeyer (born November 13, 1911 - August 19, 1995), who himself was born in Thüngersheim (near Würzburg) and studied with Richard Stegmann and Hans Bode. In the summer of 1912, Stegmann performed Hugo Türpe's Fantasia for Cornet à Pistons in A “Appassionata” with the Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich at two concerts (Tonhalle garden concert, promenade concert on Bürgerplatz).

Richard Stegmann was evidently the last trumpeter to take part in the 1912/13 opera Der Trompeter von Säckingen by Victor Ernst Nessler (libretto by Rudolf Bunge based on Joseph Victor von Scheffel's first work ) in Zurich.
