The trained chef Patrick ( Patrick Lindner ) inherits a hotel on Lake Wolfgang in the Salzkammergut from his aunt . The last part of his journey - which is also his first impression of the area and the staff - takes place in the sidecar of the motorcycle of head waiter Mike ( Mike Krüger ). Managing director Alexander von Kühn ( Sascha Hehn ) has his own plans for the hotel: He wants to sell it for a profit. The new owner, however, has a different opinion, and since it appears dilapidated at first, he first has to motivate the team to develop it into a “music hotel”. In addition to the head waiter, the mountain guide and animator Marc ( Marc Pircher ), the housemaid Francine ( Francine Jordi ), the caretaker Bodo ( Bodo Bach ) and the receptionist Claudia ( Claudia Jung ), who originally fell in love with Alexander von Kühn, help him . The film was subject to severe criticism even before it aired. Leading actor Sascha Hehn , the only real actor in the production next to Michael Zittel , publicly distanced himself from the production in Focus magazine : The film was produced cheaply, a Hartz IV program and unprofessionally executed. He would rather mow someone's lawn for 15 euros than ridicule his job.

Other critics also rated the film negatively and saw it as an example of the flattening of the television program that Marcel Reich-Ranicki denounced.

For example, the magazine Gong noted: “The nice idea of ​​reviving the hit films of the 50s and 60s fails because of the craft: the book, light, camera and editing are a disaster. Acceptable as a popular entertainment show, but certainly not as a staged feature film. ”The television newspaper TV Spielfilm only awarded one (of three possible) points for humor in its in-house evaluation scheme and left the other criteria open. Otherwise, the verdict was “mini history around a handful of hits” in combination with a lowered thumb.

In a detailed review for Die Welt , Andre Mielke u. a. states that it is an "almost incomprehensible amateur play, a harmonious merging of concerted inability". As the only professional actor on the set, Sascha Hehn was allowed to console himself with the fact that "of all those involved, he is the least bit ridiculous". Another plus point is that he doesn't sing. There is also “not a bit of charm” in the script.

The film service simply rated the work as a “low-demanding, trivial (television) mixture of Heimatfilm with slapstick and musicians' celibacy”.

In contrast, the ARD program director Günter Struve praised the project as a new genre that German television was missing.

The Hessischer Rundfunk (HR), the Österreichischer Rundfunk (ORF) and the Schweizer Fernsehen (SF) were involved in the production of the film . According to the actor Sascha Hehn, the production costs are said to have been EUR 650,000. There is also said to have been no script shortly before the start of shooting and the camera work was a disaster due to the use of only two small cameras that could not do justice to the landscape.

ARD made a conscious decision to market the film as a “Schlagerette” due to the high proportion of singing and the type of plot. In addition, the roles of the folk music singers were intentionally based on their first names, so that they could "identify even better with their role" and the recognition value with the audience would be higher, according to the then ARD program director Struve.

In the run-up to the broadcast, the HR editor in charge announced that she was expecting “six million viewers or 28 percent market share”. The actual popularity was then below expectations: 4.08 million viewers meant a market share of 14.3 percent. The proportion of viewers was 290,000 or 2.7 percent.
