Jonathan & Laurent

Jonathan & Laurent is a Christian folk duo consisting of Jonathan Böttcher and Laurent Quirós.

history

At the age of eighteen, Jonathan Böttcher (* 1958 ) broke off his vocational training as a physics laboratory assistant, left his home and from then on went street musicians through pedestrian zones. His spiritual search also led him to India. He met the French-born Spaniard Laurent Quirós (* 1960 ) in the spring of 1979 in the pedestrian zone of Munich , where he was selling newspapers. Out of sympathy, Quirós asked if he could sing along. A cooperation developed from the spontaneous joint appearance. Together with Rainer Schwander, Klaus Knoppe and Helmut Kandert they formed the band Heilhut Semmeldroll until the end of 1988 . During this time, however, they began to give duo concerts as Jonathan & Laurent . In 1985, as their professional engagement increased, the musicians decided to forego concerts in pedestrian zones so as not to be unnecessary competition for street musicians. In 1988 the Christian label Pila Music finally released their self-titled debut album Jonathan & Laurent . Moment mal followed in 1990 and a live album in 1992. The commercially successful albums were among the best-selling records within the Christian music scene at the time. Despite their success, the musicians attached importance to a natural, uncomplicated relationship with the audience and for this reason, for example, usually performed barefoot at their concerts or invited visitors afterwards for talks or a visit to their farmhouse in Mädelhofen . After a long hiatus since 1996, the duo attempted a comeback ten years later in 2006.
