Douglas David Forsyth

Douglas David Forsyth (born March 4, 1896 in Pietermaritzburg ; † not known) was a South African civil servant, from 1941 to 1956 State Secretary in the Foreign Ministry, and manager.

Life

Douglas David Forsyth attended Boys' Model School Pietermaritzburg and Transvaal University College . He married in 1918 and 1963 and had three children. In 1911 he became civil servant in the Natal Province . From 1912 to 1920 he was employed in the Ministry of Defense. From 1914 to 1918 he was used in the First World War in the campaigns in German South West Africa and German East Africa . From 1920 to 1934 he was entrusted with sovereign tasks. From 1934 to 1937 he was an inspector in the public service. From 1937 to 1939 he was under-secretary for social welfare (Ministerial Director in the Ministry of Social Affairs). From 1939 to 1941 he was State Secretary for South West Africa, Chief Native Commr., Chairman and Managing Director of the Land and Agric Bank of SWA and Chairman of the Diamond Board of SWA League of Nations Mandate (administered by South Africa). In 1941 he was Jan Christiaan Smuts' private secretary . From 1941 to 1956 he was State Secretary in the Foreign Ministry. External Affairs and Chair, of External Trade Relations Comm. On March 3, 1956, he was retired and took over the management of De Beers .
