Jason Widmer (born August 1, 1973 in Calgary , Alberta ) is a retired Canadian ice hockey player . During his career he played for the New York Islanders and San Jose Sharks in the National Hockey League .

Career

Widmer first played from 1989 to 1993 in the Western Hockey League with the Moose Jaw Warriors and Lethbridge Hurricanes . In the 1992/93 season, the defender also played his first games in the American Hockey League with the Capital District Islanders , a farm team of the New York Islanders , who had selected him in the 1992 NHL Entry Draft in the eighth round in 176th position. For the 1993/94 season he returned to the WHL to Lethbridge and played there, although he had already exceeded the age limit.

The 1994/95 season , which was significantly shortened for the NHL by the lockout , the Canadian spent with the Worcester IceCats , the new farm team of the Islanders, the Canadian national team and the NHL team of the Islanders, for which he played in a game. He also spent the 1995/96 season mainly in the AHL team and was only used four times in the NHL. Due to the low possibility of establishing himself in the New York squad, Widmer signed a contract with the San Jose Sharks as a free agent in the summer of 1996 . But there the Canadian could not prevail and played again in the AHL with the Kentucky Thoroughblades . He only played twice for the Sharks, but was able to prepare a goal. After two years he moved, again as a free agent in the franchise of the St. Louis Blues had, where he play exclusively in the AHL with the Worcester IceCats, which had meanwhile been taken over by St. Louis.

Widmer ended his career on December 30, 1999 after he had not played a game for almost exactly a year due to a serious knee injury.
