Per Arne Glorvigen (born June 2, 1963 in Drammen ) is a Norwegian bandoneon player .

Career

Glorvigen grew up in Dovre and studied guitar and accordion at the Norwegian Academy of Music in Oslo from 1983 to 1987 . After graduating, he moved to Paris to continue his accordion studies with Richard Galliano . There he made the acquaintance of the bandoneonist Juan José Mosalini and continued his training with him from 1988 in order to dedicate himself exclusively to the bandoneon from then on. After several stays in Buenos Aires , during which he also met the grand master of the bandoneon Astor Piazzolla , he started his international career.

Act

In 1995 Glorvigen began an artistic collaboration with the violinist Gidon Kremer for several years , during which four CDs were created. Together they gave more than 100 concerts. Another joint work connected Glorvigen with the Alban Berg Quartet from 2003 onwards , the composition “Adieu, Satie” for bandoneon and string quartet by Kurt Schwertsik was premiered on a joint tour . A live CD with this work and pieces by Astor Piazzolla was released in 2004 by EMI . In the 2006/07 season, Per Arne Glorvigen took over the musical direction of Piazzolla's opera María de Buenos Aires at the Komische Oper Berlin . In 2006 he was the artistic director of the music festival in Bergen .

He is a co-founder of the Tango for 3 ensemble and makes regular guest appearances with large orchestras such as the Dresden Philharmonic and the Central German Radio Symphony Orchestra . His regular chamber music partners include Giora Feidman , the baroque cellist Tormod Dalen and the Leipzig String Quartet .

Together with Daniela Braun (violin) and Arnulf Ballhorn (double bass), he founded the Glorvigen Trio in 2012, which relates tango (especially Astor Piazolla ) to classical music and the compositions of JS Bach . In 2018 the CD "El Arte de la Fuga y del Tango" was released.

Per Arne Glorvigen lives in Paris.
