history

The franchise of the Port Huron Beacons of the United Hockey League in 2005 of Port Huron , Michigan , to Roanoke, Virginia, relocated and renamed the Roanoke Valley Vipers. They filled the void in the city a year earlier when the Roanoke Express broke up from the ECHL .

In their only season, the Vipers have only 17 wins in 76 games and a total of 40 points. So they finished last in the Eastern Division. Since the club owners had to accept financial losses with an average attendance of around 1,000 with a capacity of the Roanoke Civic Center of 9,000 seats, the franchise was dissolved in 2006.
