The Motor City Mechanics were an American ice hockey team based in Redford , Michigan . The team played in the United Hockey League from 2004 to 2006 .

history

The team was over 2004 franchise of the United Hockey League was founded. In their first season they benefited from the lockout in the National Hockey League during the 2004/05 season . With Chris Chelios , Derian Hatcher , Bryan Smolinski and Sean Avery they were able to sign four NHL players. Originally the Canadian Kris Draper was also supposed to appear for Motor City Mechanics, but was not given a work permit due to various VISA regulations.

In the two seasons of its existence, the Motor City Mechanics reached third place in the Central Division, but only qualified in the 2005/06 season for the play-offs for the Colonial Cup , in which they defeated eventual champions Kalamazoo in the first round Wings in the best-of-seven series were subject to a sweep . Following this season, the franchise was dissolved.
