Jean-François Labbé (born June 15, 1972 in Sherbrooke , Québec ) is a former Canadian ice hockey goalkeeper and current - functionary , who was active during his active career for the New York Rangers and Columbus Blue Jackets from the National Hockey League .

Career

Labbé began his career in 1989 in the Canadian Junior League Québec Major Junior Hockey League with the Trois-Rivières Draveurs . After further engagements in the QMJHL with the Sherbrooke Faucons and the Olympiques de Hull in the 1992/93 season, he moved in the summer of 1993 to the American Hockey League to the Prince Edward Island Senators for which he only played two games. Mainly he was in the gate of the farm team at the time , the Thunder Bay Senators .

In the following years Labbé went on the ice for several AHL teams. In the 1999/00 season he even scored a goal for the Hartford Wolf Pack . In the American Hockey League, the Canadian was voted best goalkeeper twice and in 1997 the AHL's Most Valuable Player . During the 2001/02 season he set a new AHL record with nine shutouts , but this was improved by Jason LaBarbera in 2003/04 . He played his first game in the National Hockey League during the 1999/00 season for the New York Rangers . This was also his last assignment for the New Yorkers. Another 14 games followed in the jersey of the Columbus Blue Jackets .

From the 2004/05 season he played in Germany. First with the Augsburg Panthers and in the 2005/06 and 2006/07 seasons with the Nürnberg Ice Tigers . In the Panthers, Labbé made 50 appearances and an average goal against 2.81. Furthermore, he finished eighth among the goalkeepers with a catch quota of 91.13. He stood out with good reflexes and is considered a goalkeeper. When his contract was not renewed in the summer of 2007 by those responsible for the Nürnberg Ice Tigers, he moved to the Erste Bank Eishockey Liga for the Vienna Capitals , for which he was active until 2009.

From September 2009 he was under contract with the Flint Generals from the International Hockey League . At the end of the 2009/10 season, the franchise was dissolved and Labbé signed in September 2010 with Saint-François de Sherbrooke in the Ligue Nord-Américaine de Hockey . After the 2010/11 season, the Canadian ended his active career and was committed to the following season by the Windsor Wild from the Ligue Nord-Américaine de Hockey in the role of general manager.
