Western Professional Hockey League
The Western Professional Hockey League (short form: WPHL ) was a professional mid-level ice hockey minor league in the USA .
In 1996 the league was founded with six teams from the southern US states, mainly from Texas . The WPHL achieved such great success that it was expanded to 18 franchises by the 1999/00 season . At the end of the 2000/01 season, the Western Professional Hockey League took over the Central Hockey League , which, however, continued under the old name and took most of the WPHL teams into their game operations.
The league champion was played in the play-offs after the regular season and received the President's Cup , the table leader after the regular season was awarded the Governor's Cup .
