William Bradley "Bill" Trew (born January 1, 1974 in Port Hope , Ontario ) is a German - Canadian ice hockey coach and former player.

Career

Trew began his career in 1994 in the team at the University of North Dakota , for which he was on the ice in the US college league Western Collegiate Hockey Association in the game operations of the NCAA . The trained winger did not finish his studies and instead moved two years later to the Western Professional Hockey League , in which he was henceforth active for the El Paso Buzzards .

At the Buzzards, the right-shooter was one of the top performers and also the best player on the team. In his first season, Trew was able to win the championship with the team. The following year, the Canadian won the President's Cup again and was one of the top scorers in his team with 81 points in 69 games . After another successful year with the Buzzards, the right-handed shooter signed a contract with Grefrather EC for the 1999/2000 season , which was then playing in the 2nd Bundesliga .

After the club had to continue playing in the Regionalliga-NRW due to financial problems , the attacker joined the EHC Straubing from the Oberliga after the preliminary round . In Straubing, Trew experienced his most successful sporting period as a professional ice hockey player and was able to celebrate promotion to the 2nd Bundesliga in his first year with Niederbayern . Bill Trew was the team's most successful scorer, scoring 103 points in 53 games. In the years that followed, the Canadian played with Straubing in the 2nd Bundesliga, before advancing to the top German league, the German Ice Hockey League , in 2006 .

Even in his time in the second division, Trew was one of the top performers in the team and was also one of the crowd's favorites. He came to a total of 341 league appearances and scored 379 points. During the 2007/08 season , the attacker also played four games for the Landshut Cannibals in the second division. At the end of October 2008, the Canadian, who now also has German citizenship, was appointed to the extended squad of the German national team for the first time at the age of 34 by national coach Uwe Krupp .

Bill Trew still had a contract with the Straubing Tigers until 2011. On March 14, 2011, the Straubing Tigers announced that his number 41 would no longer be awarded and that the jersey banner with his number would be hung under the roof at a farewell game after his playing career was over becomes. At the end of May 2011, Trew was signed by the Landshut Cannibals for a year. In the end, however, he played here for four years and completed 185 games in that time, in which he reached 156 points scorer. For the 2015/16 season, Trew moved to EV Regensburg in the third-class Oberliga Süd despite his age of 41 years . After two seasons in Regensburg, in which he was the captain, Trew switched back to EV Landshut for the 2017/18 season.

In May 2018, Trew announced the end of his playing career and took up a coaching position in the youth division of EHC Straubing  .

For the 2019/20 season, Trew took over the position of head coach at the Dingolfinger Isar Rats.
