The 2002–03 season was the eighth and final regular season of the West Coast Hockey League . During the regular season, the six teams played 72 games each. In the play-offs, the San Diego Gulls prevailed and won the fifth Taylor Cup in their club history. After the season, the WCHL merged with the East Coast Hockey League , which then changed its name to the abbreviation ECHL and included the six remaining WCHL teams for the 2003/04 season .
