The 1996/97 season was the West Coast Hockey League's second regular season . During the regular season, the six regular WCHL teams played 64 games each, while a visiting team consisting of Russian ice hockey players under the name Red Army competed against each of the other teams in the return leg. In the play-offs, the San Diego Gulls prevailed and won the second Taylor Cup in their club history.
