Ľubomír Sekeráš (born November 18, 1968 in Trenčín , Czechoslovakia ) is a former Slovak ice hockey player who played for the Minnesota Wild and Dallas Stars in the National Hockey League from 1987 to 2011 .

Career

Ľubomír Sekeráš began his career as an ice hockey player in his hometown with HC Dukla Trenčín , for whose professional team he was active from 1987 to 1993 in the Czechoslovak first division . With his team, the defender won the Czechoslovak championship in the 1991/92 season . After the division of Czechoslovakia, he immediately won the Slovakian championship title with Dukla in the 1993/94 season during the premiere season of the Slovakian Extra League . After another year with Dukla in the Slovak Extra League, he played from 1995 to 2000 for HC Třinec in the Czech Extra League . There he was also able to convince with good performances, whereupon he was selected in the NHL Entry Draft 2000 in the eighth round as a total of 232 players by the Minnesota Wild . For this he made his debut in the National Hockey League during the 2000/01 season at the age of 31 and was a regular for the Wild for the following three years.

The 2003/04 season began Sekeráš at Lokomotive Yaroslavl in the Russian Super League , but left this again after three assists in 15 games and instead played for Södertälje SK in the Swedish Elitserien . There he was successful with 17 scorer points in 33 games, whereupon the Dallas Stars from the NHL signed him as a free agent before the end of the season. He scored one goal and one assist in four games for the stars. In the 2004/05 season he competed for the Nuremberg Ice Tigers from the German Ice Hockey League . The 2005/06 season began the long-time Slovak national player with his hometown club HC Dukla Trenčín in the Slovak Extraliga and finished it with the Malmö Redhawks in HockeyAllsvenskan , the second Swedish division. With Malmö he rose in the Kvalserien in the Elitserien. The 2006/07 season he began again at HC Zlín in the Czech extra league and finished it with the Malmö Redhawks in the Elitserien. Most recently he played for two years for his ex-clubs HC Třinec in the Czech Extra League and HC Dukla Trenčín in the Slovak Extra League before ending his career in 2011 at the age of 42.

International

For Slovakia , Sekeráš took part in the C World Championship in 1994 , the B World Championship in 1995 and the A World Championship in 1996 , 1997 , 1999 , 2000 and 2001 . He was also in his country's squad at the 1994 Winter Olympics in Lillehammer and at the 1996 World Cup of Hockey . At the 2000 World Cup he won the silver medal with his team.
