Ronald Petrovický (born February 15, 1977 in Žilina , Czechoslovakia ) is a Slovak ice hockey player who last played in 2009 for the Springfield Falcons in the American Hockey League . His brother Róbert is also a professional ice hockey player.

Career

Ronald Petrovický began his career as a hockey player in the youth department of HC Dukla Trenčín , for whose professional team he made his debut in the Slovakian extra league in 1993/94 in the extra league (Slovakia) . The winger then moved to the Canadian Junior Western Hockey League , where he was active from 1994 to 1998 for the Tri-City Americans , Prince George Cougars and Regina Pats . During this period he was selected in the NHL Entry Draft 1996 in the ninth round as a total of 228 players by the Calgary Flames . First he played from 1998 to 2000 exclusively for Calgary's farm team , the Saint John Flames , in the American Hockey League , before he was also on the ice for the Calgary Flames in the National Hockey League for two years . Much of his rookie year , the 2000/01 season , he missed due to a wrist injury that he suffered shortly after the start of the season.

The 2002/03 season Petrovický spent at Calgary's league rivals New York Rangers before he was selected on October 3, 2003 in the NHL Waiver Draft by the Atlanta Thrashers . For the Thrashers he scored 16 goals in 78 games and provided 15 assists in his first year. The lockout during the 2004/05 season spent the Slovak international in Europe, where he was successively for the MsHK Žilina from his Slovak hometown, and the Brynäs IF in the Swedish Elitserien on the ice. After resumption of play in the NHL, he returned to Atlanta, where he spent another season before he signed a contract as a free agent with the Pittsburgh Penguins on July 24, 2006 . Due to a hip injury in the pre-season, he was only able to play 31 games for Pittsburgh in the NHL and also completed four games for their AHL farm team Wilkes-Barre / Scranton Penguins .

During the 2007/08 season , the 2006 Olympian ran for several European clubs. First, he began the season at HK Dukla Trenčín, then he moved to MODO Hockey in the Elitserien and finally he ended the season at EV train in the Swiss National League A . For the following season he was committed by the Latvian club Dinamo Riga from the newly founded Continental Hockey League . For his new team he scored two goals in 30 games and prepared another three. The Slovaks then moved back to North America, but only played six games for the AHL team of the Springfield Falcons in the 2009/10 season . He has been without a club since then.

International

For Slovakia , Petrovický only took part in the Junior European Championship in 1994. In the senior sector, he was in his country's squad at the World Championships in 2000 and 2004 , as well as at the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin .
