Player career

Paolo Duca played for HC Ascona and GDT Bellinzona as a child and teenager. He later moved to the junior division of HC Ambri-Piotta, for whose U20 juniors he played in the Elite Jr. A, the highest junior league in Switzerland, from 1997.

During the 1998/99 season he made his debut in the club for the first team National League A . In 1998 and 1999, Ambri won the IIHF Continental Cup , with Duca not on the squad, and the IIHF Super Cup in 1999 . In 2001 he moved to the ZSC Lions , where he only played a few games and was also eligible to play for the GCK Lions from the National League B. At the end of the 2001/02 season he was loaned to EV Zug , where he was put under contract after the loan deal ended and played until 2007. From 2007 Duca played again at his youth club in Ticino, where he signed a three-year contract. There he will act as team captain from 2008 . In October 2009, Duca extended his contract with the HCAP until 2015 after becoming his team's top scorer in the 2008/09 season. Following the 2016/17 season, Duca ended his playing career. His jersey number 46 has been banned from the club.

International

Duca played on the international stage for the first time at the U18 Junior World Championship in 1999 . With five templates in seven games, he knew how to convince. Likewise a year later at the U20 Junior World Championship in 2000 , when he scored four goals himself in seven games and prepared another. In the Under-20 World Youth Championship in 2001 , the striker also was used and recorded two points scorer. The winning of medals in the junior area was still denied him; the best placement was fourth in 1999.

For the seniors, Duca was used for the first time at the 2010 World Cup under the new Swiss national coach Sean Simpson . The previous trainer Ralph Krueger had never considered the attacker. In seven games at the World Cup in Germany Duca remained pointless and reached the quarter-finals with Switzerland.

Functionary career

After the end of his playing career in April 2017, he stayed with HC Ambrì-Piotta and took over the office of sports director at the club.
