The Milovická pahorkatina (German Milowitz Hills , also Millowitz Hills ) are a mountain range in South Moravia , Czech Republic . They form the eastern part of the Mikulovská vrchovina .
geography
The Milovická pahorkatina rises to the right of the Thaya on the south bank of the Nové Mlýny reservoir. Surrounding villages are Nové Mlýny in the north, Bulhary in the northeast, Nejdek in the east, Sedlec in the south, Mikulov in the southwest and Klentnice in the west. It has an extension of 37 km² and an average height of 256 m. ü. M.
To the north, the valley of the Thaya forms the natural border with the Dolnomoravský úval ( southern March basin ). To the east, the hill country between the Thaya and the Včelínek / Niklasgraben also slopes down to the Dolnomoravský úval. To the south the Niklasgraben forms the border to the Marchfeld . In the west, the valleys of the streams Klentnický potok and Mušlovský potok separate the Milovická pahorkatina from the Pollau mountains ( Pavlovské vrchy ).
The Milovická pahorkatina consists of flyschigem mudstone and sandstone , sedimentary rocks and loess .
In contrast to the heavily agriculturally used Pollau Mountains ( Pavlovské vrchy ) to the west, Milovická pahorkatina is largely forested. Most of the Milovická pahorkatina has belonged to the 83 km² Pálava Protected Landscape Area since 1976 and to the Dolní Morava Biosphere Reserve since 1986 ( until 2003 the Pálava Biosphere Reserve ). In the north of the hilly country, the Milovická stráň nature reserve has been established on an area of 88.35 hectares since 1994 .
