Nicholas Plastino (born February 20, 1986 in Sault Ste. Marie , Ontario ) is an Italian - Canadian ice hockey player who has been under contract with HC Ambrì-Piotta in the National League since July 2017 .
Career
Nick Plastino began his career as a hockey player with the Collingwood Blues, for which he was active in the 2003/04 season in the Ontario Junior Hockey League . He then played for three years for the Barrie Colts in Canada's top junior division, the Ontario Hockey League . From 2007 to 2011, the defender was on the ice for Asiago Hockey in the Italian Serie A1 . With the team he won the Italian championship title in the 2009/10 and 2010/11 seasons . The Italo-Canadian began the 2010/11 season with the Wheeling Nailers from the ECHL , but returned to Europe after just 13 games and signed a contract with Bofors IK from HockeyAllsvenskan , the second Swedish division , in November 2010 . For the 2013/14 season he was signed by the Elitserien promoted Örebro HK . After a year there, he moved to the Norwegian GET league to reigning champions Stavanger Oilers , with whom he was able to defend the title. After this success, he moved to Tappara in the Finnish Liiga in the summer of 2015 , where he also won the championship title in 2016 , with 11 points scorer in 18 play-off games among the top performers of his team. Because of the performances shown, several top European clubs became aware of Plastino, who finally signed a one-year contract with HC Slovan Bratislava from the Continental Hockey League .
For the 2017/18 season , the defender moved to HC Ambrì-Piotta in the National League , he signed a one-year contract.
International
Plastino obtained Italian citizenship in autumn 2009 and made his debut in February 2010 for the Italian national ice hockey team as part of the Euro Ice Hockey Challenge .
For Italy, Plastino took part in the World Cup of Division I in 2011 and the tournaments of the Top Division in 2010 and 2012 . He also represented Italy in the qualifying tournaments for the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi and the 2018 Winter Olympics .
