The Austria Cup has been an ice hockey cup competition that has been held since 2014 for Austrian teams that are participating in the supranational Inter-National League at the same time . The first winner of the cup was VEU Feldkirch .

history

After the 2013/14 season there was a personnel reorganization of the Italian Ice Hockey Federation. In the course of this, the Italian teams were banned from further participation in the Inter-National League , whereby the field of participants in the league shrank from 15 to 11 teams. The Austrian Ice Hockey Association responded by founding a cup competition, which should be held parallel to league operations and secure additional home games for the Austrian clubs.

Playing times

2014/15 season

In the first season, the six teams played an easy round trip (10 games) between October and February. The scoring was based on the three-point rule; a tie after sixty minutes was followed by overtime and, if necessary, a shootout.

The game of EHC Lustenau against the Kapfenberg Steelers on February 3, 2015 was certified with a 5-0 result. The reason for this was that the Steelers had requested a game postponement due to injury-related failures, which was not allowed by the association.
