David Marshall Mason

David Marshall Mason ( December 17, 1865 - March 19, 1945 ) was a British politician.

Life

Mason was born in 1860 as the eldest son of the politician Stephen Mason and his wife Martha . He attended the Kelvinside Academy and the Partick Academy and then studied at the University of Glasgow and in Germany. In 1898 he married Mary , the daughter of George W. Crouse , who later represented the state of Ohio in the House of Representatives . Mason has worked in the financial sector and was co-founder and chairman of the Sound Currency Association .

Political career

For the first time Mason stood in the general election of 1906 to elections at the national level. He ran as a candidate for the Liberal Party for the constituency of Glasgow Tradeston . Mason was defeated by the liberal unionist Archibald Corbett , but he was able to prevail against the conservative A. Rosenthal . In the following general election in January 1910 , he was unable to win a majority and even fell behind the candidates of the Conservative Party. For the general election in December 1910 , Mason ran in the constituency of Coventry . He prevailed against the Conservative John Kenneth Foster and moved into the British House of Commons for the first time .

The first post-war elections took place in 1918 . Mason ran as an independent liberal and received the lowest share of the vote of the four applicants on election day and he was subsequently eliminated from the House of Commons. In the following general election in 1922 , 1923 and 1924 Mason ran unsuccessfully in the Romford constituency . He also missed re-entry into the House of Commons in the 1929 general election in the Barnstaple constituency . After his party colleague James Hogge did not run in the 1931 elections, Mason ran in the constituency of Edinburgh East . On election day he received the largest share of the vote and he was again given a seat in parliament. Mason did not run for the next election.
