Fredrik "Freddy" Eriksson (born July 18, 1983 in Örebro ) is a Swedish ice hockey player in the position of defender who has been under contract with the Straubing Tigers in the German Ice Hockey League since the 2018/19 season . His cousins Daniel Berglund , Christian Berglund and Carl Berglund are also professional ice hockey players.
Career
Fredrik Eriksson began his career as a hockey player in the youth department of Färjestad BK , for whose professional team he made his debut in the Elitserien in the 2000/01 season . In his rookie year , the defender was used in a total of 13 games and was runner-up with his team. He then spent two seasons at Bofors IK from the second-rate HockeyAllsvenskan , before he was again on the ice as a regular for Färjestad BK in the Elitserien from 2003 to 2006, where he was Swedish champion for the first time in his career in the 2005/06 season . At the same time, he continued to play for the Bofors IK in the HockeyAllsvenskan.
For the 2006/07 season Eriksson signed with Färjestads league rivals Malmö Redhawks , with whom he was relegated to HockeyAllsvenskan at the end of the season. After three years in the second Swedish division, he was signed for the 2010/11 season by the Nürnberg Ice Tigers from the German Ice Hockey League . For the following season the defender returned to Sweden and signed a contract with Frölunda HC . In 2013 he received a two-year contract with the Nürnberg Ice Tigers. Following the 2013/14 season , he was named Defender of the Year in the DEL for his achievements .
In March 2015 it was announced that Eriksson would play for the Kölner Haien from the 2015/16 season . After three seasons in the cathedral city, the Straubing Tigers announced the commitment of the Swedish defender on July 9, 2018.
International
For Sweden , Eriksson took part in the U18 World Junior Championship in 2001 and the U20 World Junior Championship in 2003 .
