Mitchell Heard (born March 12, 1992 in Bowmanville , Ontario ) is a Canadian ice hockey player . Since July 2018 he has been under contract with the Straubing Tigers from the German Ice Hockey League .

Career

Heard began his career with the Plymouth Whalers from the Ontario Hockey League (OHL), who signed him in the fall of 2009 after he had not previously been selected by any team during the OHL Priority Selection . After two seasons with the Whalers, he was available for the 2011 NHL Entry Draft , but was not selected by any team in the National Hockey League (NHL). As a result, he received an invitation to the training camp of the Toronto Maple Leafs , with whom he could not agree on a contract despite good performance and thus returned to the Plymouth Whalers.

In the 2011/12 OHL season , Mitchell Heard set new personal bests with 29 goals and 57 scorer points in 57 games. In the 2012 NHL Entry Draft , the offensive player was selected in the second round at a total of 41st position by the Colorado Avalanche . Shortly thereafter, he signed a three-year entry - level contract with Avalanche. The 2012/13 season began Heard first with Colorado's farm team Lake Erie Monsters in the American Hockey League (AHL), but was sent back to the Plymouth Whalers in the OHL during the season for further development. With the Whalers he reached the conference final in the 2012/13 OHL season , but was eliminated there against the later J. Ross Robertson Cup winner London Knights .

Heard was under contract with the Lake Erie Monsters until the end of the 2014/15 season, where he also played 22 games with the Fort Wayne Komets in the ECHL from November 2014 to April 2015 . The right-shooter spent the 2015/16 season with the newly founded Stockton Heat from the AHL and Adirondack Thunder from the ECHL, both farm teams of the Calgary Flames . Heard was on the ice for the Florida Everblades from the ECHL and the Charlotte Checkers from the AHL for the next two years .

In July 2018, the Straubing Tigers from the German Ice Hockey League (DEL) announced the commitment of the young Canadian. The Bavarian ice hockey team is Heard's first stop in Europe.
