The International Association for Landscape Ecology (IALE) is an international organization for landscape ecology .
The individual sections organize conferences, seminars and workshops in order to promote the exchange of information between the partner organizations and scientists, politicians and practitioners who are concerned with problems of landscape ecology.
IALE was founded in 1982 in Piestany, Slovakia, to promote transdisciplinary research and the exchange of experience in the field of landscape ecology as a scientific basis for landscape planning and environmental management. In addition to the international umbrella organization, the IALE is currently organized in three regional associations - Africa, Europe and North America - as well as more than 20 different national associations. The IALE Region Germany IALE-D eV was founded on May 6, 1999 in Basel. The German region of the International Society for Landscape Ecology (IALE) connects landscape researchers, planners and other interested parties in order to promote the scientifically and planning-based design of human-environment relationships. The association is committed to the scientific foundations of landscape research and sustainable landscape management, their application in practice and the professional communication of landscape-ecological issues. In 2019 IALE-D had around 170 members.
