Tim Conboy (born March 22, 1982 in Farmington , Minnesota ) is a former American ice hockey player in the position of defender , who was active in the German ice hockey league for the ERC Ingolstadt and the Düsseldorfer EG from 2012 to 2018 .
Career
Tim Conboy began his career as a hockey player in the United States Hockey League , where he was active from 2000 to 2002 for the Rochester Mustangs and Topeka Scarecrows . He was then selected in the NHL Entry Draft 2002 in the seventh round as a total of 217th player by the San Jose Sharks , for which he never played. First, the former defender played two seasons for the St. Cloud State University in the National Collegiate Athletic Association , before he in the playoffs of the 2003-04 season his debut in the American Hockey League - farm team gave the Sharks, for which he actively until 2006 was.
On July 21, 2006, Conboy signed a contract with the Carolina Hurricanes as a free agent . After the American was active in the 2006/07 season exclusively for their farm team, the Albany River Rats from the American Hockey League, he made his debut in the National Hockey League for the Hurricanes during the 2007/08 season .
For the next two seasons, Conboy shuttled between the Hurricanes and the farm team, the Albany River Rats from the AHL. After the 2009/10 season , his contract was not renewed and Conboy signed in July 2010 as a free agent with the Buffalo Sabers . After training camp, he was sent to the Portland Pirates' farm team . The defender spent the entire 2010/11 season with the Portland Pirates. On July 11, 2011, Conboy signed a two-year contract with the Ottawa Senators .
For the 2012/13 season Conboy moved to ERC Ingolstadt in the German Ice Hockey League . At the end of the 2013/14 season he won the German championship title with ERC Ingolstadt , to which he contributed 28 points (8 goals). After this success he left the club and was signed by the Düsseldorfer EG . Conboy completed a total of 107 games for DEG, in which he was able to collect 25 scorer points and received 236 penalty minutes due to his robust and combative style of play. For health reasons, he had to end his career after the 2017/18 season. In his 6 years in the DEL, Conboy was one of the toughest defenders in the league, but was also the crowd favorite of his clubs. In the 2016/17 season he was the "penalty bank king" of the DEL with 144 penalty minutes.
