Patrick Köppchen (born June 21, 1980 in Berlin ) is a former German ice hockey player who last played in the German ice hockey league for Düsseldorfer EG .
Career
Patrick Köppchen began his career in his hometown with the Eisbären Berlin , where he went through all youth teams. In 1997, the defender moved to Nepawal Manitoba for a year in the Junior A League of the North American Youth League WHL. The left shooter then played for a year for Braunlager EHC / Harz and two seasons for TSV Erding . In the 2000/01 season , Köppchen was also entitled to play for the Munich Barons in the DEL with a sponsorship license and received first missions there. From the following season, the defender played exclusively for the Barons and, after they moved to Hamburg , for the Hamburg Freezers . For the 2004/05 season , Köppchen signed a contract with league rivals Hannover Scorpions . In the 2008/09 season he reached second place with the Scorpions in the DEB Cup and second place in regular time in the DEL. In addition, Köppchen was again nominated for the DEL All-Star Game by the fans .
Köppchen was German champion with the Hannover Scorpions in the 2009/10 season . In 2011 he returned to the Freezers, for whom he played until the end of the 2012/13 season. From the 2013/14 season he was under contract with ERC Ingolstadt , with whom he won his second championship title in the first season and was elected MVP of the playoffs. He was also the team captain of the Panthers in the 2014/15 season .
In January 2015 he was the tenth player to reach 800 DEL games, although he had not missed a league game from November 2007 and played his 500th DEL game in a row in October 2015. In November 2016, he became the ninth player to reach 900 DEL games.
In the summer of 2017, Köppchen separated from the ERC and switched to the Nürnberg Ice Tigers . In his only season with the Franks, he reached the semi-finals of the championship round with the team.
At the beginning of May 2018, the Düsseldorfer EG Köppchen signed for the 2018/19 season . On November 27, 2018, he completed his team's 3: 4 away defeat against Fischtown Pinguins Bremerhaven as the fourth player after Mirko Lüdemann , Nikolaus Mondt and Daniel Kreutzer, his 1000th DEL game.
After the 2018/19 season, he underwent shoulder surgery and ended his career in February 2020.
International
At the European Junior Championships in 1997, Köppchen made his debut for a DEB selection. In the following years he was always part of the squad of the junior teams at major tournaments. For the senior national team , the defender first took part in an ice hockey world championship in 2002 and has since been part of the extended squad.
