Nikolaus "Niki" Mondt (born August 9, 1978 in Düsseldorf ) is a former German ice hockey player who has played 1,060 DEL games for the Düsseldorfer EG , Kassel Huskies , the ERC Ingolstadt and the Hannover Scorpions in the course of his career .

Career

Mondt began his career in the youngsters of the Düsseldorfer EG , for whose professional team he completed his first 21 DEL games during the 1995/96 season and achieved two scorer points and a plus / minus statistic of +5. In 1996, in its first year as a professional, the center won the German championship with the Düsseldorf team . In the following years, the left shooter was one of the top performers in the team and had a place in the regular squad. After DEG had to be relegated to the 2nd Bundesliga in the 1998/99 season , Mondt left his long-term employer and hired the Kassel Huskies .

With the huskies, the attacker experienced his most successful sporting time, in addition to the championship title with the DEG. In his first season, the native of Düsseldorf came to 51 missions in which he scored 22 points. A year later, Mondt reached the play-off semi-finals with the Huskies, where they failed with 0: 3 defeats at eventual champions Munich Barons . In the summer of 2000, the center forward returned to his home club Düsseldorfer EG, which at the same time rose from the 2nd Bundesliga to the DEL.

At DEG, Nikolaus Mondt did not fulfill his previously signed three-year contract and instead joined ERC Ingolstadt during the 2002/03 season . With the Panthers, the attacker was able to reach the play-off semi-finals in 2004 and 2005 . Also in 2005 he was able to win the German ice hockey trophy with the ERC, which at the time was able to sign four NHL players due to the NHL lockout of the 2004/05 season , including the German national player Marco Sturm . After a brief interlude with the Kölner Haien during the 2005/06 season , Mondt signed a contract with the Hannover Scorpions, with whom he won the German championship in the 2009/10 season. Born in Düsseldorf, he will be returning to DEG for the 2012/2013 season. On October 19, 2012, Mondt completed his 900th DEL game in DEG's 3-2 victory in Straubing. On January 28, 2014, Mondt was the second player to reach the 1000-game mark in the DEL in the 2-0 defeat in Ingolstadt. After the 2015/16 season he ended his career after 1,006 DEL games and took on tasks in the club's office.

International

In addition to his career at club level, Nikolaus Mondt was in the German national team several times. In 1995 he ran for the first time for the German team when he was in the squad of the junior national team, with which he took part in the Junior World Championship in Canada in the same year . In the following years, the attacker completed 22 international matches for the German junior teams, before he was nominated for the senior national team in 1999, with which he took part in the 1999 B World Cup . There Mondt missed promotion to the A group with the team, but was used in seven games and was able to achieve a scorer point. This was also his last appearance so far in the German national jersey.
