John Laliberté (born August 5, 1983 in Saco , Maine ) is a former American ice hockey player who was under contract with ERC Ingolstadt in the German Ice Hockey League between 2012 and 2018 .

Career

Laliberté began his career in 2002 at Boston University , where he was active for the local ice hockey team, the Boston University Terriers , in the US college league Hockey East . During the NHL Entry Draft 2002 , those in charge of the Vancouver Canucks decided on the left-handed shooter and selected him in the fourth round in a total of 114th position. After four years of study, he finished his studies in 2006 and joined the Worcester Sharks , the farm team of the San Jose Sharks , from the American Hockey League . The offensive player completed nine AHL games and then moved to league rivals Milwaukee Admirals .

He stayed there until the end of the 2007/08 season . During his time with the Admirals, Laliberté also worked in the ECHL with the Trenton Titans and the Augusta Lynx . In the summer of 2008 he moved to Europe and signed a contract with the Odense Bulldogs from the Danish top division, the AL-Bank Ligaen . In Odense , the American was one of the top performers and was also one of the best strikers in the league with 57 points in 44 games . Consequently, the management of Grizzly Adams Wolfsburg became aware of him and signed him until the end of the 2009/10 season .

In January 2010, Laliberté extended his contract with the Grizzly Adams for two more years until the end of the 2011/12 season . In May 2012 Laliberté switched to league competitor ERC Ingolstadt , with whom he won the German championship in 2014.

John Laliberté was the captain of the ERC Ingolstadt from 2016. At first only abroad, he filled this position in full from 2017. The striker was consistently one of the best scorers in the DEL and later also one of the best in the ERC club's history.

In May 2018, he retired to join the Portland property development team .
