Jakub Ficenec (* 11. February 1977 in Hradec Kralove , Czechoslovakia ) is a former German - Czech Hockey - defender , who most recently in Düsseldorf EC from the German Ice Hockey League was under contract.
Career
At the age of 17, Jakub Ficenec played his first two professional games in 1993 at HC Hradec Králové . Two years later followed three more games in the top Czech division for HC Slavia Prague . The defender was only used sporadically there. To improve his game, Ficenec moved to Canada in 1995 and was there for two years for the junior team of the South Surrey Eagles in the British Columbia Hockey League on the ice. At the 1997 Royal Bank Cup , the Czech was ultimately voted the tournament's best defender.
Then the Washington Capitals farm team , the Portland Pirates , signed the now 20-year-old. Ficenec played 125 times for the Pirates between 1997 and 2001, scoring 24 goals and preparing 27. The defender made a stop in the East Coast Hockey League in 1998 when he played one season for the Johnstown Chiefs . For the 2001/02 season Ficenec turned from North America to play in Europe again. He found a new home with the Augsburg panthers . There he was able to fully convince, whereupon the DEG Metro Stars secured the services of the Czech with a hard slap shot. Ficenec only stayed in Düsseldorf for one season.
For the 2003/04 season , the right-handed shooter signed a contract with the league competitor ERC Ingolstadt . In 2005 Ficenec won his first title in Germany with the Panthers when his former club, the DEG Metro Stars, was defeated in the cup final after a shootout.
At the end of the 2013/14 season he won the German championship title with the ERC Ingolstadt . After this success he left the club after eleven years and was signed by the Düsseldorfer EG .
Due to a knee injury, he terminated his current contract in December 2015.
He officially ended his career in September 2016. In recognition of his achievements for the ERC Ingolstadt, his jersey number # 38 was blocked there and his jersey was hung under the roof of the Saturn Arena .
International
In 2006 Ficenec made his debut in the Czech national team . In August 2009 he received German citizenship and was nominated for the first time for the German national team a little later . Ficenec is part of the squad that took part in the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver .
