Coaching career
Rick Adduono's coaching career began in the junior area. Between 1990 and 1995 he worked for the Thunder Bay Flyers in the US youth ice hockey division. After a three-year hiatus, during which he trained in semi-professional leagues, he joined the East Coast Hockey League in 1998 , in which he was behind the gang until 2007 except for a small break.
During his four-year tenure with the South Carolina Stingrays , their greatest triumph, winning the Kelly Cup in 2001. From 2004, after two years with the Greensboro Generals , his team changed almost annually. In the 2004/05 season he was responsible for the UHL team of the Port Huron Beacons .
In 2007 he was hired by the Iserlohn Roosters from the DEL . A year earlier he was represented in the narrowest circle of candidates, but preferred an offer from the Long Beach Ice Dogs . In his first season in Germany, he and Karel Lang (EV Duisburg) were elected coach of the DEL Allstar Game 2008 . He led the Roosters to fifth place in the table and thus to their first play-off participation in the DEL. He was then voted Trainer of the Year 2007 in Iserlohn. After the season he could not agree with the club management on a new contract, so that Adduono Iserlohn left after just one season.
On December 11th, 2009 Adduono signed a contract with the Krefeld Penguins . In the 2013/14 season, the penguins completed the DEL main round in second place under his leadership and Adduono then received the award as DEL trainer of the year . He remained the Penguins' trainer until early November 2015 when he stepped down from his post. At that time he was the longest-serving DEL coach. He then became a consultant for the penguins and on December 19, 2016, he took over as head coach again after the club separated from Franz-David Fritzmeier . His tenure as Krefeld coach ended with the end of the 2017/18 season, in which the penguins had finished the main round under his leadership as bottom of the table. He stayed with the team as an advisor and game face.
