Jason O'Leary (born August 17, 1978 in Fredericton , New Brunswick ) is a Canadian ice hockey coach and former player.
Career
O'Leary played and studied at St. Thomas University in Fredericton . After graduating, he worked first in Calgary , then in the Canadian province of British Columbia as an English teacher and trained the ice hockey teams at the schools where he had a job. He also worked for Hockey Canada in the U16 and U17 area.
In 2009 he became head coach of an ice hockey academy in St. Pölten , Austria , a branch of the Canadian Okanagan School. O'Leary was also head coach of the Austrian U18 and U20 national teams during this time .
For the 2013/14 season he was assistant coach at SC Langenthal in the Swiss National League B (NLB). After Olivier Horak's resignation in December 2014, O'Leary took over as head coach at SCL, initially on an interim and then as permanent basis.
In the 2016/17 season O'Leary led the SCL to win the NLB championship title, but his team missed promotion in the league qualification against HC Ambrì-Piotta (0: 4 wins). After he could not agree on a contract extension with the SCL, he moved to Genève-Servette HC in the National League A (NLA) for the 2017/18 season , where he became a member of the staff as assistant coach.
At the end of May 2018, he was introduced as the head coach of the EV Zug youth development team in the Swiss League; for the 2019/20 season, O'Leary moved to the German ice hockey league as head coach of the Iserlohn Roosters .
