Karsten Mende (born January 14, 1968 , Gadderbaum , North Rhine-Westphalia ) is a former German ice hockey player and currently manager of the Iserlohn Roosters from the German ice hockey league .
Career
From 1988 to 1991 Karsten Mende played at the ECD Sauerland in Iserlohn . He then switched to the Cologne Sharks , with whom he stayed for six years. In the 1992/93 season , Mende was voted the league's best defender. In the first season of the newly founded German Ice Hockey League , he won the German championship with the Haien in 1995. In the summer of 1997, Mende signed with Braunlager EHC from the second-class first division . After a year switched to the Crocodiles Hamburg . During the 1999/00 season he switched to the Iserlohner EC . There he played 33 games and then ended his career.
In Iserlohn he then took on tasks in sporting management and finally became manager of the Iserlohn Roosters , which had been promoted to the DEL in 2000. Although the Roosters' budget is always one of the lowest in the league, a competitive team was always set up in cooperation with the respective coaches. This was also confirmed by a vote by “Ice Hockey NEWS”, in which Mende was named the fifth best manager in the league. The most successful season so far was the 2007/08 season when they reached fifth place after the main round and reached the play-off quarter- finals . After the Roosters qualified for the quarter-finals again in 2014 and 2015, Mende was named Manager of the Year by the DEL.

The defender was part of the German national team at the 1993 Ice Hockey World Championship .
