Jake Weidner (born June 11, 1992 in Grand Valley , Ontario ) is a German - Canadian ice hockey player who has been playing for the Iserlohn Roosters in the German Ice Hockey League since 2017 .

Career

Jake Weidner began his career near his home town of Grand Valley . In the 2008/09 season he played for the Gray-Bruce Highlanders. In the following two years he played in the lower class junior league Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League for the Listowel Cyclones and the Guelph Hurricanes. Weidner spent the 2011/12 season in the higher-ranking Ontario Junior Hockey League with the Newmarket Hurricanes. He completed his last year in the junior division again in the GOJHL and played for the Elmira Sugar Kings. With 83 points in 49 games, he was the sixth best scorer in the league.

In the 2013/14 season, Weidner began studying agriculture and life sciences at Cornell University , one of the most renowned universities in the world. At the same time he played for the local ice hockey team Cornell Big Red. Weidner started the season well and recorded four assists in his first three games in the ECAC Hockey game . In the further course he could not keep this performance and was not always part of the Big Red squad. He finally scored his first goal in February 2014 and completed a total of 23 of the 32 games of his team. Over the next two years, Weidner established himself in the team as a hard-working player who primarily focused on the defensive game. But also offensively, he was able to double his balance sheet from the first year. In his senior year, Weidner was named captain of the Big Red. As an important player outnumbered and outnumbered, he made a significant contribution to the fact that his team was able to qualify for the championship tournament of the National Collegiate Athletic Association for the first time since 2012 . There they were defeated by the UMass Lowell and missed the final series Frozen Four .

In April 2017, Weidner signed his first professional contract with the Iserlohn Roosters from the German Ice Hockey League .
