Career
In 1978 he started his career at Zetor Brno . He moved to HC Dukla Trenčín for a year in 1979 , but soon returned to Brno. He stayed there until 1988 before moving to the 2nd Bundesliga for EV Stuttgart for the 1989/90 season.
From there he moved to the 2nd Bundesliga North for Krefeld EV . Lang helped the KEV in the 1990/91 season to promotion to the 1st ice hockey Bundesliga . He played in Krefeld until 2001 and was called "The Witcher" there because of his very good reflexes.
His shirt number 1 was blocked in his honor by the Krefeld Penguins . On May 3, 2013, the Krefeld Pinguine announced that his son Lukas , who is also an ice hockey goalkeeper, has signed a contract until 2014. In his honor, Lukas wore his father's number on his back.
From 2002 to 2005 Karel Lang was goalkeeping coach of the Krefeld Pinguine, goalkeeping coach offspring for all age groups of the Krefeld EV 81 and coach of the boys B-team KEV 81. As a player he never became German champion , he succeeded in the 2002/03 season as goalkeeping coach the Krefeld penguins.
From January 2006 he was the goalkeeping coach of Duisburger Füchse and from March 2006 to October 6, 2006 he was also employed there as an assistant coach. After a 14-day leave of absence due to an internal consolidation of EV Duisburg, he was reappointed as a goalkeeping coach on October 20, 2006 in the coaching staff. On January 27, 2008 he was appointed head coach of the foxes. On September 16, 2008 he resigned from his coaching position, successor to Didi Hegen . However, he remained the Füchse's assistant coach. On January 7, 2009, Lang resigned - along with the entire Füchse sports management.
On March 2, 2007 he was again in a DEL game in the gate. He came on the ice 49 seconds before the end of the game against Straubing , breaking the age record previously held by former Wolfsburg goalkeeper Kevin McGibney . He was used once as a 46-year-old and is still active in the 2nd Bundesliga .
