Christian Hommel (born January 23, 1981 in Hemer ) is a German ice hockey player who has been playing for the Iserlohn Roosters in the German Ice Hockey League since 2008 .

Career

Christian Hommel started ice hockey at the age of three. As a schoolboy and teenager he played exclusively for the Iserlohner EC, with which he won his first German championship with the juniors in 2000.

The 1.78 m tall winger began his professional career in 1998 at Iserlohner EC in what was then the second-class Bundesliga . After the club's rise and the outsourcing of the professional team to Iserlohn Roosters GmbH , he was on the ice for four years in the DEL for the Sauerland team from the 2000/01 season . Further stations in the highest German ice hockey league were the Kassel Huskies and the Hamburg Freezers .

After the 2005/06 season , Hommel moved to North America, where he took part in the Phoenix Coyotes training camp to recommend himself for an engagement in the NHL. After this failed, he played six times in the minor league CHL for the Arizona Sundogs , a farm team of the Colorado Avalanche from the National Hockey League . However, due to the lack of a visa , the contract was canceled and the striker returned to Germany. Since November 2006 he has laced his ice skates for EV Duisburg in the DEL.

After two years in the Ruhr area, the left shooter signed another contract with the Iserlohn Roosters in summer 2008. Initially signed as the 13th striker, Hommel was able to play in the team and was also active in the third row for some time. His contract was extended for two more years after the season, so Hommel should stay with the Roosters at least until 2011. While in his first years with the Roosters Hommel acted almost exclusively as a player who was supposed to destroy the opponent's game and be physically present, since 2008 he has improved his understanding of the game and his technical skills. This made him more versatile and regularly outnumbered Ice Age in the 2009/10 season .

International

Christian Hommel played a total of 17 international matches for the German national ice hockey team , including four games at the 2003 World Cup in Finland .
