Jamie McBain (born February 25, 1988 in Edina , Minnesota ) is an American ice hockey player who was last under contract with the Tampa Bay Lightning in the National Hockey League until July 2018 and for their farm team, the Syracuse Crunch , in the American Hockey League was used.
Career
Jamie McBain began his career as a hockey player in the USA Hockey National Team Development Program , for which he was active from 2004 to 2006 in the junior division of the North American Hockey League . He was then selected in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft in the second round as the 63rd player of the Carolina Hurricanes . First, however, the defender attended the University of Wisconsin for three years , for whose ice hockey team he played parallel in the National Collegiate Athletic Association . During his studies he was elected to the All-Rookie Team of the Western Collegiate Hockey Association in 2007 and to their best player and first All-Star Team in 2009. In 2009 he was also elected to the first All-American team of the NCAA's Western Conference.
Towards the end of the 2008-09 season , the former junior international made his professional ice hockey debut when he scored a goal and an assist in ten games for Carolina's farm team Albany River Rats from the American Hockey League . In the 2009/10 season , the American played again predominantly for the Albany River Rats in the AHL, but came parallel to his first 14 appearances for the Carolina Hurricanes in the National Hockey League and scored ten points, including three goals. In the 2010/11 season he spent an entire season in the NHL for the first time and scored 30 scorer points in 76 games for the Hurricanes, including seven goals.
In late June 2013, he was transferred to the Buffalo Sabers together with a second-round suffrage in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft in exchange for Andrej Sekera . These did not extend his contract after the 2013/14 season, so he was looking for a new employer as an unrestricted free agent . He found this in October 2014 when the Manchester Monarchs and a month later the Los Angeles Kings signed him. McBain began the 2015/16 season with the Kings new farm team, the Ontario Reign . After this season, the defender received no new contract with the Kings, so he joined the Arizona Coyotes as a free agent in July 2016 . There, however, McBain could not establish himself in the NHL squad and spent most of the following season in the AHL with the Tucson Roadrunners .
After the 2016/17 season, he joined the Tampa Bay Lightning as a free agent . There he fulfilled a one-year contract that was not renewed in summer 2018.
International
For the USA , McBain took part in the U18 World Junior Championship in 2006 and the U20 World Junior Championship in 2007 and 2008 . Especially at the U18 World Cup in 2006, where he and his team became world champions, he was able to convince. In the course of the tournament he was the best assists and was elected to the All-Star Team of the World Cup and named their best defender. At the 2007 U20 World Cup, he and his team won the bronze medal.
At the 2013 World Cup in Stockholm and Helsinki , McBain was part of the men's national team for the first time and won the bronze medal with it.
