James Thomas "JT" Wyman (born February 27, 1986 in Edina , Minnesota ) is a retired American ice hockey player . After he was drafted in 2004 by the NHL franchise Canadiens de Montréal , he mainly played for their farm team, the Hamilton Bulldogs . This was followed by two seasons with the Tampa Bay Lightning and their farm teams, before Wyman was under contract with the Lake Erie Monsters from July 2013 to July 2014 and ended his active career after a year with the Nürnberg Ice Tigers . In total, Wyman played 44 NHL and 450 AHL games.
Career
James Thomas Wyman was born in Edina , Minnesota and attended Blake High School in Hopkins , a small town directly adjacent to Edina. In the local high school team, the Blake Bears , he was regarded as one of the most promising talents in his age group and was nominated for the Minnesota Mr. Hockey , an award for the best young player in Minnesota. In his final season at Hopkins, he scored 55 points scorer in 27 games . This was followed by the 2004 NHL Entry Draft , in which he was selected in 100th position by the Canadiens de Montréal . This draft would actually have been granted to the Chicago Blackhawks , but they gave up their rights for the transfer of Sergei Beresin in June 2002.
With the Canadiens, he signed a two-year entry level contract . At the same time he moved to Dartmouth College to continue his school career alongside sports. With The Big Green - all sports teams at the university bear this name - from then on he played in the ECAC hockey game , a pure college league . During his four years in college he improved his performance on the ice year by year; except for 15 goals and assists in 29 games of the 2007/08 season. In the course of this he was called up by the Canadiens farm team , the Hamilton Bulldogs . In the following season 2008/09 he completed 52 games for the Bulldogs in the American Hockey League and 15 games for the Cincinnati Cyclones in the ECHL .
In the first few months of the 2009/10 season Wyman was irregular in the Canadiens squad and so came on November 24, 2009 against the Columbus Blue Jackets to his NHL debut. He booked a total of three missions, but without getting a scorer point. With the Bulldogs he got 41 points in 95 games in the season, with the team in the play-offs for the Calder Cup made it to the semi-finals. After he spent the next season completely in the AHL (and failed in the play-offs again in the semi-finals), he was signed as a free agent by the Tampa Bay Lightning in July 2011 . After he had established himself in their farm team, the Norfolk Admirals , in a few months , he was a permanent member of the Lightning NHL squad from December 2011. In the third game he scored his first goal and his first assist in the NHL against the Canadiens, of all places, so that he played a key role in the 4-3 success. In total, he completed 40 games with a total of 11 goal participations in his first NHL season. Following the season, he extended his contract in Tampa for another year.
Due to the lockout , Wyman was handed over to the new farm team, the Syracuse Crunch , for the new season . There he reached the play-offs with the team and scored 45 points in 94 games. It was not until April 2013 that the Lightning used it once at the end of the season, when it played against the Buffalo Sabers .
As a free agent, he left Tampa after the 2012/13 season and was finally signed for a year by the Colorado Avalanche . This contract was not renewed in July 2014 , after it had only been used by the Lake Erie Monsters in the AHL, so he moved to Germany to the Nürnberg Ice Tigers . He ended his career after the 2014/15 season.
Personal
Wyman's grandfather also played ice hockey for the Bulldogs at Yale University .
