Sidney Morin (born June 6, 1995 in Edina , Minnesota ) is an American ice hockey player who has been playing the position of defender at MODO Hockey in the Svenska damhockeyligan since the 2017/18 season . Morin has been a member of the United States Women's National Ice Hockey Team and Olympic Champion since 2018 .

Career

Morin grew up in Minnetonka , Minnesota , and attended high school there between 2009 and 2013 . During this time, she took part with the U18 team of the US Ice Hockey Association USA Hockey at the U18 World Junior Championship in 2013 . There the defender won the silver medal with the team. After this success and successful graduation from high school, she moved to the University of Minnesota Duluth for the 2013/14 school year . There the defensive player played in the following four years parallel to her studies for the university team in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association , a division in the game operations of the National Collegiate Athletic Association . In her senior year she was honored with the award for best defensive player in the division.

The defender could not recommend herself for the women's national ice hockey team of the United States and was not - like many other players - recruited by the US ice hockey association to prepare for the 2018 Winter Olympics before the 2017/18 season . Since the teams of the National Women's Hockey League and Canadian Women's Hockey League had also shown no interest in signing Morin, they signed a contract with the traditional Swedish club MODO Hockey from Svenska Damhockeyligan in May 2017 . With her performances there, in January 2018 she was the only female legionnaire to receive a place in the 23-man Olympic squad of the Americans and won the gold medal with the team.
