The Cure ( English for 'the healing') is a song by the American pop singer Lady Gaga . It was released on April 16, 2017 under the music label Streamline and also Interscope .

The Cure was written by Lady Gaga with DJ White Shadow (Paul Blair) after her appearance on the Super Bowl LI halftime show . The song originated in Los Angeles , where Lady Gaga and her team were working on new music before Lady Gaga began filming the movie A Star Is Born . Six months before the song was released, her fifth studio album, Joanne , was released, the music of which was less danceable than earlier pieces or The Cure . Lady Gaga said she wanted to create a song for the summer.

Appearances

At the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival 2017 , Lady Gaga was announced as the main act in March 2017, as the singer Beyoncé , who had been scheduled up until then, could not perform due to her pregnancy. On April 16, 2017, Lady Gaga performed there and sang the song The Cure for the first time in addition to earlier hits . After the performance, the track was available as a single on iTunes .

In 2017 The Cure was an integral part of the Joanne World Tour and was played as the last permanent piece.

Chart placements

In Germany, The Cure was able to place itself at number 57 and stayed in the charts for a total of twelve weeks. For Lady Gaga this is already the nineteenth chart success in Germany and the longest since her single Do What U Want , released in 2013 . In Austria it is also her nineteenth chart success, while in Switzerland it is already her twentieth. There the song was not as successful as the previous single Million Reasons . In Great Britain, where the song was awarded silver with over 200,000 units sold, the song lasted eleven weeks and was able to place itself up to nineteenth place. In the United States, the title landed at number 39 and stayed there for fourteen weeks.
