Big Time is a song by Peter Gabriel from 1987. It appeared on his album So and became his second top ten hit on the American Billboard Hot 100 (number 8). Big Time is about a man who tries by all means to be successful. But it's also about using your time wisely and having fun.

Musical

Big Time is played in two different keys: a minor in the chorus and a - Doric in the stanzas. The song has a speed of 116 bpm . What is unique about the song is the bass guitar , which was played together by bassist Tony Levin and drummer Jerry Marotta . While Levin grabbed the notes on the bridge on the fretless bass , Marotta played the strings with drumsticks . Because of this, the bass sounds percussive . Levin later invented so-called funk fingers , which are small drum sticks that can be attached to the fingers in order to achieve a comparable bass sound on stage. The The Police -Schlagzeuger Stewart Copeland plays drums on this track.

Music video

As with the predecessor Sledgehammer , Gabriel also created a special music video for Big Time with stop motion , clay animations and other film effects. The music video shows Gabriel leaving his small apartment and taking a trip to the big city, which also reflects the content and title of the song.

Others

Curtains is the title of the B-side of Big Time . The song can also be heard on the B-side of the single Don't Give Up . The title can also be found on the soundtrack of the documentary Inside Job .
