Doesn't Really Matter is a song by American contemporary R&B singer Janet Jackson . The song was released as a single in the United States in May 2000 and also appeared on Jackson's 2001 album All for You .

The song was the theme song for the soundtrack to the film Nutty Professor II: The Klumps, starring Janet Jackson and Eddie Murphy . The song became Jackson's ninth number one hit on the American Billboard Hot 100 . The piece stayed on top for three weeks, making Jackson the first performer to celebrate number one hits in the US in the 80s, 90s, and 2000s.
Janet Jackson wrote the song in her spare time, thinking that this song would go well with the film Nutty Professor II: The Klumps and its content. Jackson gave her own version of the lyrics to the songwriting team Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis. Both have worked with Jackson for over 15 years. They then revised the lyrics to the final version. Jackson later produced the song with Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis.
Music video
The music video was directed by Joseph Kahn and the choreography was developed by Shawnette Heard. The music video shows Jackson in abstract animal fur clothing from Japan. Among other things, Jackson dances on floating platforms and in a futuristic vehicle ( Acura CL-X Concept Prototype ). The background to Jackson and her dancers are excerpts from the Dreamcast games Jet Grind Radio and Shenmue . The music video aired on June 28, 2000 on MTV's Making the Video , with explanations of how it was made. The music video was also released as a video CD single and as bonus material to the video for the film Nutty Professor II .
