Wisin & Yandel
Wisin & Yandel (formerly Wisin y Yandel ) is founded in 1998 Puerto Rican reggaeton - duo consisting of Wisin and Yandel . They are considered one of the most important reggaeton groups and have already been awarded two Latin Grammys and are the only reggaeton artist to date with a Grammy for their music. They are also known by the nicknames El Dúo de la Historia , El Dúo Dinámico or Los extraterrestres .
Both musicians have been pursuing solo careers since 2013, the cooperation as a duo paused for five years until they started a joint comeback in 2018 with the album "Los Campeones del Pueblo".
Career
Both Wisin and Yandel were born and raised in the Puerto Rican city of Cayey . They met at school. In 1998 they released their first song together, followed by their first studio album Los Reyes del Nuevo Mileno in 2000 . It peaked at number 35 on the US Latin album charts. The albums "De nuevos a viejos" as well as "De otra manera" and "Mi vida ... My Life" followed in the years 2001 to 2004 . Through several guest contributions to albums by well-known musicians such as Daddy Yankee and Luny Tunes , they became known to a wide public during this time.
In 2005 they founded their own music label WY Records as a sub-label of Machete Music and Universal Music Group . Their next album, Pa'l mundo , was released there, with which the duo achieved their commercial breakthrough. The album peaked at number 30 on the Billboard 200 and received a gold record from the RIAA . It contained the single releases Rakatá and Llamé pa 'verte (Bailando sexy) , both of which could be placed on the Billboard Hot 100 . It also featured a variety of guest appearances from Daddy Yankee, Tony Dize and Romeo Santos , lead singer of the Bachata group Aventura, among others . In the same year they were also able to celebrate success for the first time in German-speaking countries when their guest contribution to Burn It Up by R. Kelly reached the charts in all three German-speaking countries.
In 2007 they released their most successful album to date Wisin vs. Yandel: Los extraterrestres . It was influenced less by reggaeton and more by rap and R&B . The album received a Latin Grammy in 2008 for Best Urban Music Album . For the single Abusadora that was extracted from it , they won the Best Urban Song category in the following year . At the Grammy Awards 2009 it finally received a Grammy in the category Best Latin Urban Album .
In May 2009 the seventh studio album followed under the title La Revolución . In an interview beforehand, Wisin y Yandel announced that they would like to return to their origins with this album after the predecessor deviated musically rather from the typical reggaeton sounds. In contrast to its predecessors, despite similar success in the US Latin album charts, it was unable to achieve a US Latin award, but rose to number seven on the Billboard 200 and is thus the duo's most successful album in the entire USA. It was nominated for Best Latin Rock, Urban or Alternative Album at the 2010 Grammy Awards .
Los Vaqueros: El Regreso was the name of the eighth studio album, which was released in January 2011 and should be a continuation of the 2006 collaboration album and label sampler Los Vaqueros . It reached number eight on the Billboard 200 , but only stayed in place for eight weeks, as opposed to 23 weeks of its predecessor.
The 2012 released studio album Líderes contained the successful single Follow the Leader with Jennifer Lopez . This is the duo's first single to achieve a gold record in the United States . She was also able to book the duo's first solo chart listing in German-speaking countries with number 74 in the Austrian music charts . However, the album itself flopped onto the Billboard 200 ; unlike its predecessors, it did not reach the top ten , but only number 42.
In 2013 it was announced that the duo had split up for the time being due to differences with management and wanted to focus on their solo careers, but would later like to release a new album as a duo. They gave their last concert together on November 16, 2013 in Mexico City . From September to December 2013 they were jurors in the third season of La Voz ... México , the Mexican version of The Voice .
In September 2017 appeared with the song Como Antes (dt. Earlier As ) of Yandels album update the first official collaboration of the duo for almost four years. The song was released under Yandel feat. Wisin published, but the singing and rap parts of the two musicians in the song are almost equal.
Collaborations
Wisin y Yandel have worked with numerous musicians of various genres in their careers, for example with the pop singers Nelly Furtado , Chris Brown , Jennifer Lopez and Enrique Iglesias , the Mexican pop group RBD and the Bachata group Aventura as well as the rappers Ja Rule , R Kelly , T -Pain , Fat Joe , Pitbull , 50 Cent , and Eve .
