Broken Bells is an indie rock project by the two American musicians Brian Burton (also known as Danger Mouse ) and James Mercer .

Band history

The DJ and music producer Brian Burton, known among others from Gnarls Barkley , and the front singer of the US indie rock band The Shins met in 2004 at the Danish Roskilde Festival and discovered their mutual musical interests. In March 2008 they met at Burton's recording studio in Los Angeles to record together. The multi-instrumentalist Burton relied on self-recorded music instead of samples and Mercer on a larger vocal range than both of them used in their other projects.

It wasn't until autumn of the following year that they made their joint project public, shortly before their debut single The High Road was released. In March 2010, the joint album that bears the band name was released. It became an international chart success.

In January 2014, the second joint collaboration appeared with After the Disco .
