Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites is a song by the US electro , dub and brostep producer Skrillex . The song was first released on October 25, 2010 as the first single from his EP of the same name . Musically it is mainly characterized by dubstep , brostep and house . It contains voice samples of Rachael Nedrow, who shouts "Yes, oh my Gosh!" In the song. It is Skrillex's most commercially successful single to date. It hit the charts in the US , Australia , Canada , Norway and Sweden . On December 9, 2011, the single reached gold status in the US with 500,000 units sold. Otherwise the song achieved gold status in Denmark and platinum status in Canada.
On February 12, 2012, the song won the Grammy Award for Best Dance Recording at the 2012 Grammy Awards .
According to a publication by Hamady Dieng in Acta Tropica , the song also works as a mosquito protection.
