Union J is a British boy band . The band, which was first called Triple J, consists of four members JJ Hamblett, Jaymi Hensley, George Shelley and Josh Cuthbert. In the British version of The X Factor , the boy band took fourth place in 2012. Then they were signed by Sony Music and RCA Records . In 2016, the band announced Shelley's exit.

history

James “Jaymi” Hensley and Josh Cuthbert already knew each other from Sylvia Young Theater School , Jamie “JJ” Hamblett, a former horse jockey, joined them at the instigation of their former manager Julian White. They called themselves Triple J. In 2012, both the trio Triple J and George Shelley competed for the ninth season of The X Factor. Triple J sang Rihanna's We Found Love , Shelley sang an acoustic guitar version of Britney Spears ' Toxic . All members of the jury, Louis Walsh , Gary Barlow , Tulisa Contostavlos and Rita Ora (who, however, was not present at Shelley's audition and therefore did not vote for Shelley), each voted for the singers' advancement.

During the boot camp, Shelley sang Labrinth's Earthquake with two candidates, Charlie Cammish and Meg O'Neill , but didn't make it into a jury house. Triple J competed against GMD3 for the last remaining place in a jury house. However, GMD3 retained the upper hand and got the free space. However, after Rough Copy , who had already been nominated for a jury house, withdrew their participation in the show, Blair Dreelan , the manager of Triple J and Shelley, was called and promised the trio a place in the jury house, provided that Shelley was named fourth member to join the band. Three days before heading to Las Vegas , Shelley joined the boy band. This was then renamed Union J. Allegedly, this was the idea of the British TV presenter Caroline Flack, as the film material shows. Through the performance of Carly Rae Jepsen's Call Me Maybe they got a place for the live shows. When it became known that the band was subsequently nominated for a jury house, they were the topic of conversation in 46 percent of all posts on social media platforms. In week 2 they were mentioned 200,000 times.

During a performance in Cardiff on December 15, 2012, Union J announced that they had signed a deal with Sony Music . On January 28, 2013 it was confirmed that the band had signed a contract with RCA Records , a subsidiary of Sony Music. Her debut single, Carry You , premiered on Capital FM and BBC Radio on April 22, 2013 and received positive feedback. The single was recorded in London in January 2013 and released on June 2, 2013. The debut album Union J was released on October 28, 2013 . On March 3, 2016 Shelley announced his departure from the band.
