Kristers Gudļevskis (born July 31, 1992 in Aizkraukle ) is a Latvian ice hockey goalkeeper who was most recently under contract with the Fischtown Pinguins Bremerhaven .
Career
Kristers Gudļevskis comes from the youth department of Latvijas Bērzs and went through the youth teams there before moving to HK Ogre , for which he was active in the Latvian ice hockey league in the 2009/10 season. At the same time, he went on the ice for the Ozolnieki / Juniors syndicate in the second-class Belarusian league . After he was selected by Dinamo Riga during the KHL Junior Draft 2010 , he switched to the organization of the KHL franchise and from then on played for HK Riga in the Molodjoschnaja Chokkeinaja League . He was also a member of Dinamo's extended KHL squad, but initially did not complete a KHL game for the franchise. In 2011 he was nominated for the MHL All-Star-Game .
During the 2012/13 season he showed convincing performances in the junior league, so that he came up as a substitute goalkeeper in the KHL in October. On October 5, 2012 he made his KHL debut in the game against Vitjas Chekhov , when he replaced Mikael Tellqvist after the second third in goal.
In the 2013 NHL Entry Draft , he was selected in the fifth round at a total of 124th position by the Tampa Bay Lightning , where he signed a two-way contract for three years, which he later extended. Gudļevskis played by summer 2017 predominantly in the Syracuse Crunch , the farmteam the Bolts . On July 1, 2017, he was transferred to the New York Islanders in exchange for Carter Verhaeghe . After playing exclusively for the Islanders' farm team, the Bridgeport Sound Tigers , in the American Hockey League in the 2017/18 season , he decided to return to Dinamo Riga. In October 2019 he was dismissed after an unsuccessful start to the 2019/20 season and replaced by Alexander Salák . Then the Fischtown Pinguins signed him in December 2019, for which he had completed 26 assignments in the DEL by the end of the season .
International
Kristers Gudļevskis represented his home country in the junior division at a total of three world championships. In 2010 he took part in the U18 World Junior Championship with the U18 team of Latvia , where he finished ninth and relegated to Division I. A year later he played with the Latvian U20 juniors at the U20 World Junior Championship in Division I , played a role in the course of the tournament and made it back to the top division with the team.
At the U20 Junior World Cup in 2012 , he was the national team's regular goalkeeper, played five tournament games and was able to achieve relegation with the national team in the relegation round. In 2013 he was appointed to the men's national team for the first time and made it into the world championship squad. At the world championships in Helsinki he took turns with Edgars Masaļskis in goal and showed convincing performances with a catch rate of 92.5% and an average goal against 2.22.
At the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi , Gudļevskis was a member of the Olympic squad and convinced there, especially in the game against the Canadian national ice hockey team , when he saved 55 shots. The Latvians still lost 1: 2 against the Canadians, who then moved into the semi-finals against Team USA .
