Helge Nielsen

Hans Karl Helge Nielsen (* 12. October 1918 in Copenhagen ; † 11. December 1991 ) was a Danish trade union functionary and politician of Socialdemokraterne , who was, among other things housing and environment minister.

Life

Nielsen, from a working class family came from, graduated after attending the elementary school training as Glover . In addition to his work in this profession, he was also involved in the small trade union of the glove makers ( Handskemagerforbund ) and was the chief cashier there between 1946 and 1951 and then its chairman until 1956. In 1956 he became secretary of the information center of the labor movement ( Arbejderbevægelsen ) and was then its chairman from 1964 to 1971.

In the election of November 15, 1960 , Nielsen was elected as a candidate for the Social Democrats for the first time as a member of the Folketing and initially represented the Copenhagen-Bispeeng constituency there until the elections of December 4, 1973 . During this time he was also secretary between 1965 and 1971 and from 1968 to 1971 also spokesman for housing policy of the social democratic group in the Folketing.

On October 11, 1971, Prime Minister Jens Otto Krag appointed Nielsen as Minister of Housing ( Boligminister ) in his third government and held this ministerial office in the subsequent first government of Prime Minister Anker Jørgensen until September 27, 1973. During this time he also dealt with the redevelopment of residential areas and submitted a 1973 draft law on the participation of residents in settlement redevelopment projects. He then took over the post of Environment Minister ( Miljøminister ) for a few weeks as the successor to Jens Kampmann until December 19, 1973 .

In the elections on January 9, 1975 , Nielsen, who was press spokesman for the Almennyttigt Saneringsselskab redevelopment company between 1974 and 1975 , was re -elected as a member of the Folketing in the Copenhagen-Bispeeng constituency, but lost his seat in the following election on February 15 1977 . Shortly afterwards, on February 15, 1975, Prime Minister Jørgensen appointed him Minister for Housing and Environment in his second government .

Shortly before the 1977 election, Nielsen resigned from this ministerial office on January 26, 1977 and immediately afterwards became director of Almennyttigt Saneringsselskab , where he succeeded Kaj Andresen , who was housing construction minister in the second Krag government between 1964 and 1968 . During his activity as director of this redevelopment company, extensive renovation work was carried out on backyard buildings in the Gammelholm district of Copenhagen.
