Jens Kampmann (born March 30, 1937 in Frederiksberg Kommune , Hovedstaden region ) is a former Danish politician of the Social Democrats who was a minister several times.

Life

Kampmann is the son of Viggo Kampmann , the long-time finance minister and chairman of the Social Democrats, who was Prime Minister of Denmark between 1960 and 1962 . After attending school in 1955, he began studying political science , which he completed in 1962. During his studies he began his political engagement in the social democratic student association Frit Forum . Immediately thereafter, he initially worked in the Ministry of Education before moving to the Ministry of Finance in 1964, where he worked until 1971.

In the elections of November 22, 1966 , Kampmann was elected as a candidate for the Social Democrats for the first time as a member of the Folketing and represented the constituency of Silkeborg until he retired from politics in 1978 . During his membership in parliament he was editor of the party newspaper Verdens Gang between 1968 and 1970 and then until 1971 of Ny Politik .

On October 5, 1971, Kampmann was appointed Denmark's first Environment Minister ( Miljøminister ) by Prime Minister Jens Otto Krag . He held this office until October 27, 1973 and was then replaced by Helge Nielsen . In addition, on October 11, 1971, Krag appointed him Minister for Public Works ( Minister for offentlige Arbejder ) in his cabinet and held this position under Krag's successor, Anker Jørgensen, until he was replaced by Kresten Damsgaard on December 19, 1973. As Minister for public works he was also responsible for traffic and campaigned for an expansion of the Copenhagen-Kastrup airport , as environment minister on the other hand for the protection of the neighboring island of Saltholm .

On February 26, 1977 he succeeded Svend Jakobsen as Minister for Taxes and Duties ( Skatte- og Afgiftsminister ) in the government of Anker Jørgensen and held this office until September 30, 1978. He was succeeded by Anders Andersen . The reason for his resignation was the failure of a comprehensive tax reform.

Kampmann was then director of the environmental office ( Miljøstyrelsen ) belonging to the Ministry of the Environment until 1999 and then handed this office over to Steen Gade .
